Bright blue skies, a soft breeze stirring in the trees, birds chirping and the sun shining! It was a picture perfect day for a walk...only it wasn't.

The skies were gray, it was drizzling and the air had a bit of a chill. I thought about remaining in my nice warm, cozy house, curled up on the couch with a book and a hot cup of tea. Then I looked into the eyes of my furry companion, one for whom these walks are a complete delight despite the weather. Not wanting to disappoint her, I donned a pair of boots and a rain jacket and off we went. As we walked I started thinking, as I often do! We swim, we shower, we get wet willingly participating in many forms of recreation. Why then do we resist walking in the rain? I began to notice things. Suddenly the warmth on my face that I was used to on sunnier days, became a light cleansing mist, the birds that I listened for were still present albeit different types and sounds. The earth smelled damp, spring was here and with it the promise of new life all around me! I left the path at one point to follow the sounds of rain falling in a nearby creek. The pitter patter of the raindrops in the treetops and on the surface of the water was mesmerizing and peaceful. As I retuned to the path, although I didn't see one, I was reminded that rain brings rainbows as well. A promise that all things can be beautiful, it is all in the eye of the beholder as the cliche goes. As we turned towards home, I continued to marvel at the different sights and sounds. I had walked this path many times but today I was experiencing it from a different perspective and it was refreshing to the body, mind and soul.
